Activities
Social life at Cornelius House happens naturally and is more a matter of individual choice than prescribed activities. People are encouraged to lead their daily lives to suit their needs, as far as is reasonably possible.
On a day to day basis …
Residents have the freedom to come and go, to socialise and maintain their cultural interests, or enjoy a meal out with family and friends. Cornelius House is part of a great local scene, and we take full advantage of it. Residents take advantage of the Dial-a-Ride scheme to access voluntary transport.
Similarly, friends and family are welcome in the House at any time. For special occasions, there is a separate dining room set aside for residents to host private family meals.
“Thank you for your generous hospitality to us when we have visited and your warm welcome. We have always found such a lovely atmosphere”
On a weekly basis …
There are drop in classes, personal care sessions and activities for residents to enjoy as and when they feel inclined.
Hairdressing, manicures and pedicures are offered every week, while ‘Pam’s surgery’ gives residents a chance to have an informal chat. Keep Fit and Pastimes classes through the week are perfectly complemented by Wine and Sherry on Saturdays and Games on Sunday. Holy Communion is held twice each month. West Sussex mobile library regularly bring a wide selection of fiction local history or biography books, which is complemented by the selection of daily newspapers available in the lounge.
Calendar Highlights
However, it is the innovative and interesting Calendar of Events that sets Cornelius House apart and galvanises staff and residents.
The annual Summer Party sees friends, family and staff enjoying the canapés and drinks under the Pagoda to the music of the Miller Men. At Halloween everyone enjoys a light hearted evening, and Easter brings Egg Rolling, the Easter Hat competition and a card and gift sale. Christmas begins with the House Christmas Party to the music of Graham Anthony, continues with Carols in the House performed by the Fron Church Choir, festive events and services, and culminates in the Cornelius Christmas Lunch on Christmas Day.
“Such a joy to be included in your invitations to Christmas Party on Tuesday. Thankyou so much for your warm welcome, delicious food and wine and for creating such a lovely atmosphere of celebration”
In September 2009 Alpaca goats were shown in the gardens to the delight of residents (and amusement of staff). Also in 2009 residents strutted their stuff on the catwalk modelling clothes from Marks & Spencer in a special fashion show. A Welsh Male Voice Choir dropped by after performing at the Chichester Theatre to the delight of all residents in late September 2009.
“Such a happy atmosphere inside and even room for dancing”
